Yena Lee born in 1989 began studying
violin at the age of 9 at the Vancouver Academy of Music with
Taras Gabora and Lawrie Hill. She has won 1st and Grand Prizes
and numerous scholarships in many both local and national
competitions in Canada such as Kiwanis Music Festival, VYSO
Concerto Competition, Vancouver Youth Korean Music Competition,
and Canadian Music Competition for solo works and chamber music.
She made an orchestra debut at the age of 14 and in same year
she was awarded as Most Promising Musician from Vancouver School
Board District.
Yena made solo performances with the Vancouver Symphony
Orchestra, West Coast Symphony under conductor János Sándor,
Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra, and the Vancouver Pilgrim
Orchestra. She was also a concert master in the Vancouver Youth
Symphony Orchestra and for a Special Concert Night with the
Vancouver Symphony Orchestra/Vancouver Youth Symphony Orchestra
playing Grieg Peer Gynt and Sibelius Finlandia. She performed
the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto, Zigeunerweisen and Carmen
Fantasy by Sarasate, and Wieniawski’s Violin Concerto No.2.
Yena has achieved Performer’s Diploma in Vancouver. Since 2007,
she is studying with Prof. Anne Shih at the Hochschule fur Musik
in Mainz.
